A major 6.0 magnitude earthquake hit near the south coast of Western Honshu, Japan, on April 1, 2016, at 02:39:07.1 UTC, at a depth of 10 km, reported CSEM-EMSC.

A major 6.2 magnitude earthquake hit near the north coast of New Guinea, Papua New Guinea, on April 1, 2016, at 19:25:01.5 UTC, at a depth of 60 km, reported CSEM-EMSC.
