The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a Tsunami Threat Message on August 12, 2016, at 0132 UTC.

A major 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit southeast of the Loyalty Islands on August 12, 2016, at 01:38:35 UTC, at a depth of 10 km, reported GEOFON (not finalized).

A major 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit south of the Fiji Islands on August 12, 2016, at 03:29:20.5 UTC, at a depth of 20 km, reported CSEM-EMSC.
