A major 6.6 magnitude earthquake hit off the east coast of Honshu, Japan, on September 23, 2016, at 00:14:37 UTC, reported Geoscience Australia (not finalized).

675 major (6.0+) to super (8.0+) earthquakes hit various places worldwide over the last 1,312 days. Among these were 82 7.0+ and 6 8.0+ magnitude quakes.
