The Father’s Blessing

Fathers have an important place in the plan of God for humanity.

Our Creator placed a special responsibility upon every father to lay his hands on his children and bless them, in the name of the Lord, according to the will of God. God recognizes this; He honors it and will bless you and your children for this act of faith.

The blessings of the patriarchs were given to their children, according to Biblical accounts. The Book of Genesis tells us that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob blessed their children in this manner, and God was with them; He blessed them and honored them for it. The Testament of the Twelve Patriarchs gives a more detailed account of the blessings of the fathers (https://www.sacred-texts.com/bib/fbe/fbe285.htm). There are many ancient books which were not canonized, but compliment the scriptures with more detail, which do not contradict the authorized versions of the Bible.

“And his father Isaac said to him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son; and he came near, and kissed him, and he smelled the smell of his raiment and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the Lord has blessed, therefore, God give you of the dew of heaven and the fatness of the earth and plenty of corn and wine; let people serve you and nations bow down to you, be lord over your brethren, and let your mother’s sons bow down to you. Cursed be every one that curses you; and blessed be him who blesses you” Genesis 27:26-29

“By faith, Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come. By faith, Jacob, when he was dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff” Hebrews 11:20-21

It is also pleasing to the Lord when grandfathers bless their grandchildren. God honors all of these blessings given by the men of God to their descendants, who bless their children and grandchildren by faith.

Now some of you may not have had a God-ly father who blessed you. I didn’t, but I have asked God to bless me Himself, and He has blessed me coming and going.

King David said this,

“When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up” Psalm 27:10

What a precious promise that is, spoken by King David. He knew that because he trusted in the Lord, even if his natural father and mother both forsake him, the Lord would gather him to Himself and bless him, because he believed God.

The Word tells us,

“Then He (Jesus) touched their eyes (two blind men), saying, ‘According to your faith it shall be unto you’” Matthew 9:29

I will never forget a message that Pastor John Kilpatrick preached. He was the pastor of the Brownsville Assembly of God in Pensacola, Florida, where revival broke out on Father’s Day in 1995, and it lasted until 2000, five years! An estimated four million people came from all over the world, because of the outpouring of the Holy Ghost and the healings that took place there.

Pastor John Kilpatrick said that when God gave him a revelation of the importance of laying his hands on and blessing his children, he called his adult children to come to his home so he could bless them. He told them it was God’s will that he bless them and when he placed his hands on his son, his son wept and his wife “fell out” under the power of the Holy Ghost. His whole family was tremendously blessed when he blessed his children, as the patriarchs did.

Pastor Kilpatrick told of another man’s story, who sat under his ministry. This young man heard him preach about the importance of the father’s blessing. The young man, who was downcast and a loner at the time, went to visit his estranged father for a blessing, who wasn’t even saved. In fact, his father had always criticized him. He wasn’t received well by his father, who said, “What do you want?” He had often referred to him as a looser. To make a long story short, he told his father why he had come and his father was speechless. He asked his father if he could just wait in a room until he could bless him. He went into a back room and waited. He heard his father walk down the hall, hesitate, and then retreat several times. Finally, his father made it to the room where this young man was waiting for his father’s blessing and that mean man walked into the room a changed man. He cried and he finally blessed his son and their lives were forever changed after that!

Friends, God’s Holy Word is TRUTH and LIGHT. It will take you out of darkness (ignorance) into the light (truth and awareness); everything about it is miraculous. Fathers, if you haven’t prayed and laid your hands on your children and blessed them before they leave this world to enter eternity and face God, you have given them nothing, really.

This life is but a vapor (James 4:14), compared to eternity, and if you haven’t prepared your children for eternity, which is, or should be, the main focus of our short and temporary existence here, you have robbed your children of the knowledge of the things of God, the things that last forever, unlike the temporal things in this world, and you have opened the gates of hell for your God-less children to enter there forever, if you have failed to minister to them, witness to them about the things of God and eternal life, and if you have failed to bless them.

Your children are never to old to be blessed, to be told there is a God, Who sent His Son to die on a cross at Calvary to pay the penalty for their sins, to save them from eternal punishment in hell, if they will only receive the Lord and live according to His Word, the Living Word, TRUTH and LIGHT, the Bible.

If you have never done so, I urge you fathers to pray and receive the Lord, if you haven’t already, and witness to your children and bless them. Have faith that your testimony and blessings will impact their lives and win them for the Lord. Without God, we are all bound for eternal hell for the sins we have committed in this life. That is the Commandment of God, but He also made a way of escape through His Son, Jesus (Matthew 10:28; Revelation 20:12-15).

Happy Father’s Day and God bless you all.

Salvation is offered to everyone who repents of sin and receives Jesus as their Lord and Savior, unless a person crosses a line with God, to the point of becoming reprobate, having no conscience (Romans 1:21-32; Hebrews 6:4-6). Now is the time of salvation for everyone; tomorrow, or even the next hour, could be too late.

Hundreds of Bible prophecies have been fulfilled and those remaining shall surely come to pass. Are you prepared to stand before God and give an account of the life you have lived on this earth (Revelation 20:12-15)? If not, salvation is only a prayer away. Please visit the How Can I Be Saved page – your eternal destiny depends on it. God bless you.

“The Spirit and the bride say, Come; and let him who hears say, Come; and let him that is athirst come, and whosoever will, let him take of the water of life freely” Revelation 22:17
