Brownsville Revival
Today, Father’s Day, is the 26th Anniversary of the Brownsville Revival, one of the greatest outpourings of God’s Spirit in modern American history, akin to the Azusa Street Revival of 1906. The revival started on June 18, 1995, on Father’s Day, and over the following five years an estimated more than four million people attended the revival from all over the world, Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia, Canada, New Zealand…all over the world. The glory of God came into the Brownsville Assembly of God Church in Pensacola, Florida, on many occasions throughout the revival, filling the church with a glory cloud that was actually visible, and many people were miraculously healed. Countless lives were transformed, people addicted to alcohol and drugs for years were delivered instantly. A Vietnam Vet’s hand grew back during the revival, after part of it was blown off by a grenade.
I placed a video clip below of Evangelist Steve Hill’s altar call given after one of his sermons, which includes the anointed song, Mercy Seat, by Charity James, which she sang throughout the revival. I encourage you to also listen to videos on You Tube covering the Brownsville Revival, especially the sermons given by Steve Hill; they were powerful and an untold number of people were saved and transformed during that revival under his sermons. John Kilpatrick was the pastor of the church and he and his congregation gathered together for 1-2 hours on Sunday evenings praying for revival for about two years, as I remember, and God answered their prayers.
Pastors, if you want a mighty outpouring of God’s Spirit in your church, it is essential to call the saints to prayer on a regular basis, and that is scriptural.
“And (Jesus) said unto them, ‘It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves’” Matthew 21:13.
Pastor John Kilpatrick said it something like this, “God said My house shall be called ‘the house of prayer,’ not the house of preaching, not the house of social gatherings, not the house of testimonies, not the house of praise and worship, but the house of prayer.” All those things are important, but Jesus placed emphasis on the saints of God gathering together for prayer. Without prayer, you will have a dried up church and certainly no revival. When God moved on his heart to gather the saints for prayer, he told the Lord that he was concerned about how they should pray, and the Lord gave him a plan. Pastor Kilpatrick placed 12 banner (as I remember) in various locations throughout the sanctuary and the congregation prayed for five minutes under each banner, which totaled 60 minutes. The banners included “Revival,” “Church Leaders,” “Healing”…, etc. The church became so encouraged by this, they ended up praying for two hours, instead of one hour. I am thirsty for God, aren’t you? Let’s pray for revival until it comes! God answers the collective prayers of his saints; He promised – and He never lies!
