News:  Lexington, Massachusetts, father of 6-year-old arrested, spends night in jail over objections to homosexual curriculum in son’s kindergarten class.

The above news headline refers to an incident that occurred on April 27, 2005.  If that’s indicative of what was happening in 2005, trust me when I tell you that the situation is now critical. The judge hearing this man’s case told the father, David Parker, during his summation,

“You may have to consider extracting your child from the public school system.” Judge Wolf gave Mr. Parker two immediate remedies to his dilemma, “Either place your son in private school, or homeschool him.”

This is a fact; we are not going to force this world to adopt God’s laws or our Christian/conservative values. The Word of God already tells us what is going to happen in these last days:

“In the last days, perilous times shall come.  Men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God” II Timothy 3:2-4.

“There shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts” II Peter 3:3.

Jesus also said,

“Likewise, as it was in the days of Lot, they ate, drank, bought, sold, planted and builded; but the same day Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed” Luke 17:28-30 (ET – Elim אֵילִם Translation) emphasis added

What were they doing in Sodom during Lot’s day?The city was overtaken with homosexuals.

Prayer was taken out of public schools in 1962. At about the same time, sex education began in elementary schools. Teen pregnancy soared after that and there has been a steady moral decline in our society since that time, and now we see an epidemic of sexually transmitted diseases among teens. Parents now have to be concerned if their child might become romantically involved with their teachers! There have been many reports in recent years of student/teacher relationships, children with adults 20-25 years their senior! In this day and hour, parents might ask themselves, “Who is teaching our children most of the day, five days a week, and what are my children being taught?”

“Therefore, come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing and I will receive you” II Corinthians 6:17.

The Lord instructed His people,

“You shall lay up My Words in your heart and in your soul and bind them for a sign upon your hand that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way, when you lie down and when you rise up” Deuteronomy 11:18-19.  (emphasis added)

Are your children receiving their primary education from a Christian, if not from you? Are the ungodly in control of your children and their impressionable minds every day? I think possibly many shy away from this question because they don’t see any way out of the public school tragedy. I would like to present some possibilities that you might not have considered for your children, if they attend public school.

Are you aware of the fact that you are not required to have teaching credentials, or even a certain level of education in order to homeschool your children in the United States (laws vary somewhat from state to state)? Many parents have provided quality home educations for their children without even possessing a high school diploma themselves. If you are disciplined and have a strong commitment to educate your children, you can generally homeschool them. Your God-given commitment to ensure that your children are trained in the admonition of the Lord and to provide them with a God-based education is what home educators are made of. Good curriculum and teachers’ materials are also a key to success for many.

Opponents of home education often criticize homeschoolers by alleging they don’t provide their children with enough “socialization” or “social skills.” This is simply not true and I know this first hand. I had a strong commitment to home educate my son, because I had no way of reconciling my Christian faith with turning him over to a Godless educational system. I heard there was a community of home educators where I lived from Dr. James Dobson’s radio program, Focus on the Family. It was difficult financially because I had to give up my career, which provided us a bit more income than my spouse’s earnings at the time. Nevertheless, I knew what God wanted me to do for our son, so I prayed, and God provided all of the answers! I networked with Christian home educators in my area and we had group school days, group field trips, group park days, group graduation ceremonies; and the best thing about it was we all loved the Lord and we were all committed to our children’s Christian-based education. There were times when I was unable to connect with other families, but my son played with other neighborhood children after school generally every day. My son was just as “socialized” as any other child with our church involvement, homeschool network and neighborhood friends. In fact, I could retort that children in public schools seem to have too much unsupervised socialization, which ends up detrimental to their characters and well-being in many cases. You hear of drugs or weapons being brought into schools, and bullying and peer pressure, which leads to disastrous and deadly situations for some children.

I have to admit that I had one reservation about home education and that was regarding possible retribution or interference by the School District. I also heard about the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDAhttps://hslda.org) through Focus on the Family. We became members of HSLDA and paid a yearly fee of $95.00 at that time for legal protection, in the event we faced any opposition. It was a great comfort to know that HSLDA was there for us, but we never had to use their services. I didn’t hear of anyone else in our network of homeschoolers that ever had a problem with the School District either. Many other families have confronted “nightmare” situations, which HSLDA handles with great success because of their legal expertise regarding the laws that protect home educators. The nominal yearly fee is well worth the peace of mind knowing HSLDA is behind you with legal protection.

There are Christian Homeschool networks in many major cities and counties throughout the US. The Home School Legal Defense Association is an excellent resource for locating homeschool groups, purchasing curriculum and they offer online courses through their HSLDA Online Academy.  HSLDA provides comprehensive information and instructions on their website for new or potential home educators.

I encourage you to seek the Lord and pray diligently about possible solutions if your children are currently attending public schools, or private schools that do not provide Christian-based instruction, and I have summarized some reasons why:

God instructed His people to teach their children (Deuteronomy 11:18-19, Proverbs 22:6). You can supervise your child’s influences and make certain that evil communications are not affecting them. You can ensure that they not only receive a proper education, but that they are also instructed daily in prayer and the Word of God; your child’s eternal soul depends on this.

I am personally aware of the sacrifices involved in homeschooling, or providing a private Christian school education for your children. I know people, including myself, who have downsized, given up careers, relocated, scrimped, saved and sacrificed in ways you may not have thought possible. The benefit of all that sacrifice is that our children are rooted and grounded in their Christian faith and they will not depart from it. How do I know this? Because it is a promise in God’s Word, and He never breaks a promise:

“Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it” Proverbs 22:6.

What price can be placed on the eternal souls of your children? Are they not priceless?

My son has already gone to be with the Lord. I have no doubt that he is with the Lord right now, waiting for me, having escaped eternal hell, because we followed the will of God and I gave of my time and efforts to instruct him in the Word of God and the way of salvation. Can anyone put a price on that?

If the road to home education seems impossible now, perhaps due to your financial inability to stay home and provide an education at home for your children, I encourage you to pray and ask God to make a way, when there seems to be no way. God is still the same prayer-answering, miracle-working God that He was for Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the Apostles!

“For everyone that asks, receives; and he that seeks, finds; and to him that knocks, it shall be opened” Matthew 7:8.

Some suggestions for single parents who work full time:

Do you have a Christian relative, possibly parents, who are willing to help provide the home education?

If you find enough working parents at your church who would also like to homeschool their children, consider the possibility that parents could rotate teaching all of the children on their respective days off.

Have you fully considered what can be sacrificed for the sake of providing your children with a Godly, home-based education, such as giving up the second car? Forgoing expensive vacations for more conservative close-to-home recreation? Selling your home and buying a less expensive home?

You may be able to come up with some more ideas, with God’s help. He will provide; He has promised:

“According as His divine power has given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who has called us to glory and virtue” 2 Peter 1:3.

If you would like to home educate your child(ren), but need assistance and  accreditation, you may want to consider Enlightium Christian Academy, which provides an online accredited Christian-based education.

God bless you!
